Arranging an MRI appointment
Arranging an MRI appointment is a three step process
- Your family doctor or your specialist sends us a request for MRI by fax or mail.
- One of our MRI radiologists reviews the request to determine scanning protocol and medical urgency.
- Our MRI booking clerk calls you directly with an appointment time.
Generally, medically urgent requests are booked within a week or two, and moderately urgent cases within a month. Non-urgent cases are booked as appointments become available (see our wait list estimate) but we often give patients an opportunity to come in sooner than the expected wait time* (see note below).
What you can do to help the booking process:
- Make sure your doctor has included all your current contact information, including your cell phone number on your MRI request form.
- *If you are available on short notice, please give us a call and let us know. We often have unexpected openings and will call patients on our short-notice list.
- Review Preparing For Your Scan and Frequently Asked Questions to determine if you need any extra preparation.
- Be on time for your appointment in order not to delay other patients.
- If you have had your scan done elsewhere please let us know so as not to detain other patients on our waiting list.
After your scan
After your scan, a radiologist with specialized training in MRI, studies your images and makes a detailed report. It takes seven to ten working days for your doctor to receive a report by mail. Some doctors on our network system may receive reports sooner. Reporting may be delayed if we are awaiting the arrival of other examinations you've had that we need for comparison.
Please arrange to see your doctor for results. You may request that copies of your report be sent to other doctors.
